Getting a Year of Content Out of One Shoot Day

Most small businesses book a photographer, get some nice pictures, and are back where they started six months later. The difference between that and a year of material is planning, not budget.

Plan the uses, not the shots

Start from where the material has to go over the next twelve months and work backwards. Website, social, Google Business Profile, print, email, any seasonal campaign. Each of those needs different framing, different orientation and different amounts of empty space for text.

What to build into the day

• **Multiple outfit and setup changes**, so images from one day do not all look like one day.
• **Vertical and horizontal versions** of the important shots.
• **Frames with deliberate empty space** for text overlay.
• **Seasonal variation** where it can be faked honestly, or a second short shoot to cover it.
• **Short video clips** alongside stills, from the same setups.
• **Detail shots**, which fill gaps in a content calendar better than anything else.

The realistic output

1. 1.Hero images for the website and profiles.
2. 2.A set of team and individual portraits.
3. 3.Work-in-progress and process images.
4. 4.Product or service detail shots.
5. 5.Ten to twenty social-ready images with varied framing.
6. 6.A handful of short vertical video clips.
7. 7.Enough material to schedule a year without repeating obviously.

Then use it

Material that sits in a folder does nothing. Plan roughly when things will be used before the shoot, and the shoot list writes itself.
